Tom Petty’s pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch released their second album in May, and now there’s a music video to accompany the hauntingly moody “I Forgive It All.” The country-rock tune is quite poignant — sample lyrics: “I have not been down these roads since I was a child / I ain’t broke and I ain’t hungry but I’m close enough to care” — but it’s perhaps the video’s creative personnel that overshadow the track itself. Sean Penn directed the stark black-and-white cinematic video (alongside Samuel Bayer), which follows the legendary Anthony Hopkins driving and walking around the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles in a remorseful state. It’s very, very affecting. You’ve certainly come a long way since “The Waiting“, Tom! (Totally kidding. I love that video.)
